I'll be damned if I sit quietly by and watch the honorable and heroic service of someone I politically disagree with be disparaged and mischaracterized.

Cleland was a war hero. Now he is a politician and an @ss who is lying about someone else's service record. Coulter is being far more honest about Cleland's record than Cleland is about Bush's record.

I agree completely with you and have stated earlier that he owes the President an apology for his baseless and dishonorable AWOL rhetoric and IMO has become a bitter partisan.

Let's beat him up on that.

Continuing to expose himself, Capt. Cleland organized his men into a work party

What a pervert.

I'll bet Ann has more severe bedsores than Max.

I'll bet your dog likes you. In more ways than one. ;-)

I'm a conservative republican and a veteran.

Riggghhhttttt....

I've also heard that on the Net, lots of FBI agents are 14-year-old girls.

You know what...I am feeling a little annoyed these days listening to the Democrats bash the Guard and Reserve members.

Dh is a Marine Reservist (HOOH-rah!) who travels over 800 miles each way to serve the United States. He travels there at least twice a month, and serves on average, 3 full days of duty each visit. This doesn't count the paperwork for planning, fitness reports, and daily phone calls which take place, and for which amount to zero hours regarding service or pay.

I challenge Kerry, McCauliffe, Cleland and any other Democrat to say "weekend warrior" to my face.

Sure Barney Frank was eligible for military service. But he would have had to KPIP for the entire period of his service, which I suspect he was psychologically incapable of.

There was an unspoken "don't ask, don't tell" policy for years in the service before it became the formal policy under the regime of the "Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001". But it was also very possible that practicing homosexuals would be outed on the flimsiest of evidence in those past years, either preventing the original enlistment, or terminating the term of service under a "general discharge under honorable conditions".

That's a bit different then I'd read most recently. do you have a news source link that describes the account as you state it? I was having a "discussion" with some people on another board about our "brave" candidate Kerry....although that original thread was closed because the board management felt that the word Hanoi was inflammatory...sigh.

You are exactly correct. Coulter was wrong. I read the article and thought what Coulter would think about decorations and service not directly related to combat.

After all, while I understand that the chest fruit I earned while serving in the USAF was not combat related, it does not take away from the accomplishments themselves, or their overall relationship to how they helped further the mission.

Coulter's article was just as disgraceful as anything Moore, Clark, or any other liberal has spouted about Bush. You are right--It weakens our position.

It appears Coulter has really missed the mark on this one and owes Mr Cleland a serious apology.

Why? Is there a section in the ADA that says that Mr. Cleland gets his own special "handicapped ramp" in the political arena? "Wow. Senator Cleland is physically challenged, so we can't say anything mean about him while he's spewing vituperative lies about George Bush."

He knew what he was doing when he shot his mouth off about Bush. He should have stayed on the bench if he didn't want to get any on him.

They will also point out that they still occurred in VIETNAM not in TEXAS nor ALABAMA

Well, we'll just have to point out that even national guardsmen are smart enough to know you don't play with live hand grenades!

No, it doesn't. The Carvilles, Clelands and Conasons of the world need to learn that conservatives are playing hardball these days.

Otherwise, Harkin and Kennedy will continue to sell Orrin Hatch and Bill Frist for a pack of smokes, like they did this week on the memo thingy. Do you think we're playing whist?

Uggh. As much as I admire Ann, and love her writing ,this one is gonna come back and bite her. She should not have attacked Cleland on this unless 100% certain of the facts, which she seems to have missed in this case. Although Cleland is still a demagogue to attack Bush in this way. My God is this going to be an ugly campaign. I may have to go to Tibet or the South Pole until November.
