Bush pushed for the PBA ban because it was the right thing to do. The Medicare bill gives seniors real choices, and puts the program on a path toward potential privatization; any seniors not impressed are in psychological bondage to the Democrats. Not everyone is furious with the immigration proposal. Most of us realize that it will be cut-up, and pasted back together again by Congress, and that the final result may look nothing like what Bush proposed. But even here, I think Bush proposed a plan based on the reality of the situation, recognizing that illegals need to be identified and documented, and to round them all up and kick them out of the country would bring disaster to our agricultural industry. As for making his base mad, my observation is that most of those who make this claim where never part of his base to begin with. Sadly for all of you, Pat Buchanan isn't running this year.
