I want you each to read what I am about to write very carefully. I have stood listening to a WWII era veteran, a former crewman of a heavy long-range bomber squandron telling me that we should never have removed conventional AAA (anti-aircraft systems) from our cities.
I have been ridiculed for repeating these words.
How can we ignore the lessons of our WWII veterans -- while they yet live to remind us of the horrors of WWII? Our enemies have learned from that conflict (starting with the Battle of Britain) what total war means. And they wish to visit upon us from the air, from sea, and on land. Yet we insult our wise veterans who merely ask us to reinstall basic weapons of air defense around our cities.
Harken the words of our wise and battle-scarred warriors who would tell us how they now feel personally responsible for letting politicians remove our defensive battlements.
And how grateful we must all be that only this year (this year!) missile defense systems will go online, beginning to protect our cities for the first time. Studies have shown that the average American has always believed these defenses to be in place. And yet we have had treaties on record agreeing not to defend ourselves! While these high-tech systems are reassuring, I think we should still maintain some sort of non-computerized, non-network dependant anti-aircraft capability. Our lack of ability to respond on 9/11 should prove that point. We may have to function in defending cities after much of our defense network has been rendered inoperable.
We can thank presidents Reagan and GW that these defenses are now beginning to be available to us. And we must NEVER let the lessons of 9/11 go unheeded. And we must listen to those grizzled, teetering, and shaky veterans who tell us: prepare for death from above. For they have seen it being dealt, and they have been party to its visitation on evil populations who would have destroyed ours had we not destroyed them first.
It is coming, and they are warning us to be ready. Are we listening? They will be dead and gone soon, and who will remind us?
I didn't know that conventional weapons had been removed from all cities. I didn't know treaties had been made, either, which would have prevented us from defending our citiziens.
I am very thankful for having Reagan and Bush as my presidents. I believe they both place great importance on the defense of our citizens....something the Rats wish to give over to the UN....which, of course, means no defense.
