(Snip) "London's Daily Mail newspaper conjectured -- without offering proof -- that the flight was targeted because 223 is the number of a U.N. General Assembly resolution passed in 1997 that condemns Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories.

We came up with this thought on thread 1 when the first batch of flights were canceled.

Gun found on Miami-bound flight; returns to Caribbean base
Associated Press
PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos - A Miami-bound flight returned to the Turks and Caicos on Thursday after the flight crew discovered a passenger carrying a loaded handgun, police said.
Liz Williams, who owns and operates an airport gift shop, said she accidentally carried her gun onto the American Airlines Flight 464 without declaring it, according to police.
Williams alerted flight attendants just after the plane took off from the Caribbean island, and was questioned by police upon returning to Providenciales.
Police did not immediately file any charges against her.
After a three-hour delay, the flight took off again for Miami.
