I think that in some cases the local CBS affiliates were broadsided. But a few did take action as soon as they discovered what was happening. I believe that I read many posts ago that the feed was on a 7 second delay. My 17-year-old was at a party watching the game and halftime show on WRAL-TV here in Raleigh. She said that almost immediately the screen went black. Other posts have said that the scene was much longer. Which leads me to believe that WRAL-TV cut the feed as soon as they saw what happened.
The station has posted their own apology on their website. Here is an excerpt from their statement:
The station has contacted CBS management in New York to express its outrage. WRAL also has demanded that the network develop a procedure to prevent this sort of incident during live performances.
If enough local affiliates take this position maybe we'll get some results.
I just read in Newsmax.com where the FCC is looking into the half time business. They are NOT very happy about it. About time, I'd say.
