If they'd made it, all they'd need is a FG to tie. But it's hard to make a 2 pt. conversion.

WHY THE HECK DID THEY GO FOR 2???!!!!! There's no advantage of being down 4 compared to down 5 (2 field goals or 1 TD sans PAT is necessary to take the lead), while there's a big advantage of cutting the lead to 3.

If they go for 2 and make it they are down a field goal. With both a PAT and missed 2-point conversion they still need a TD.
Usually it would be a little early for that kind of call, but maybe they are afraid the defenses will go back to where they were the first 20 minutes.
