Have you tried a "home-bookeeping" program such as Quicken? You categorize all expenses as they are incurred. You estavlish the tax consequences of each category at program setup. And in fact, Quicken data can be imported directly into Turbotax. There is no reason for a family with moderately simple finances to spend much time doing a tax return.
