Wesley Clark pledged Saturday to "get our balance right" by stemming illegal immigration while allowing immigrants to earn citizenship over time.

Appearing in this military community near the border with Mexico, the retired general said, "We are going to control our borders, going to work with the government of Mexico to stem what's going on down there because we have to."

For a change! I turn 50 in two weeks and what's amazing is how many little everyday things I *do* forget!

then it stands to reason that Clark may make a third party run.

Playing Perot, so the true believers can flock to someone else to take their money and their principles, you know, like the volunteers, Larry, and laugh all the way to one of the Dem's inaugural reception.

I understand. I'm not accusing anyone of anything.

Some politically naive people will believe Clark, despite the excellent post seamole posted which used Clark's own words to show Clark's policy is MORE liberal than Bush's.

Is it smart politics to say anything to get elected? I don't think so but time will tell.

However, Nader is making noises about running again, too.

That's kind of an ethical question. Practically, it seems to be smart, as it works to get into office...and the people's memory seems to be pretty short, so by the time you come up for reelection, the sheeple have forgotten about whatever it was you promised last time.

Look at Gov. Schwarzenegger. He ran on the illegal alien drivers' license issue. After just more than two months in office, he's already flip-flopping on it.

Just for the record, Peach, I think Clark is a dangerous nutcase who will say anything, and I would trust DEBKA before I trust Clark.

It's more of a desperation move. Demo primary voters are the hard core left. He's maybe hoping for some crossovers.

He isn't going to get the nomination and Kerry is going to ignore him. Kerry is out there lurching(excuse the pun) to the left even more.

And what is the reaction in California regarding the flip-flop? Are people calling the Governor and writing letters?

Yep. And like I mentioned above, if Dean loses the nomination battle, and it now looks like he will, all bets are off: he may well run third-party to pay back the party hacks he feels have betrayed him. He is the Angry Man, after all. :-)

Clark is a bonified nut case. Being a retired 4 Star General makes it even worse.

Well, letters aren't going to matter much. Those just go in the circular file. I think what will happen is that the legislature will pass an illegal alien drivers license bill, and Schwarzenneger will sign it, and the SaveOurLicense people will go another round, and get it referred to the voters.
