I am taking the caffeine route, watching the replay of the Senate hearing with David Kay.

Will keep my hands off the keyboard till the caffeine takes effect!

I did the calcs and came up with 7.33 days per mile. It was two weeks ago so I don't remember the parameters. I do know that I based it on 100% duty cycle and these rovers can't do that.

I could be wrong, but I think that I could get to the Beagle's landing site first by bicycle.

(Does Mars count for DXCC yet?)

Time to pester the ITU for some new prefixes.

Always good to see a fellow Arizona State University alum on board. ASU and University of Arizona play a big part in the Spirit and Opportunity...

The tech side of TV was a lot harder then, but we managed to get by, helped, in large part, by the fact that the speed of light was only 65mph back in those days.

Unix hackers used to say, "Never understimate the bandwith of a '66 Buick station wagon filled with half-inch tapes."

Thanks for the ping. very busy lately.
Hope to catch up tomorrow.

But, Great news on the finding of gray hematite by Opportunity, [by infra-red spectroscopy] indicating formation in water.

Although gray hematite can be formed in oxygen-rich lava - not as likely.

Unix hackers used to say, "Never understimate the bandwith of a '66 Buick station wagon filled with half-inch tapes."

We originally used two inch tapes with data written by four heads rotating at 7200 rpm. Bandwidth was always an issue with video, too. It's funny how some parts of technology change and others don't, in video we've gone from analog to digital, and from quad tape to recording direct to hard drives, but when it comes time to archive what we've done tape is still the medium of choice.

And that '66 Buick wagon will still hold a heck of a lot of programming.

You can have Olympus. I just want one little patch of real estate on the south rim of Pavonis Mons - the highest point on the Marian equator.

That's where I'll build my skyhook.
