Kerry is divorced not an annulment. Two different things. Divorce covers civil marriage; annulment means that the Church says the marriage was not valid. If you were married and got an annulment from the Church without a civil divorce, for all practical, legal, financial purposes (IRS, property, children, inheritance, etc.), you'd still be as married as ever, and the state wouldn't let you marry again (well, maybe in a bit, the way things are going . . .)

There are quite a number of loopholes. "Immaturity" perhaps. Kerry apparently is still too immature in his grasp of faith for sacramental marriage. "Insanity" could also be an impediment to sacramental marriage.

**How did JFK get communion if they would deny it to Kerry?**
The Bishops are "wising up and following the truth."

Many others, including Jackie Kennedy Onasis were excommunicated for divorce. Jackie Kennedy was never excommunicated. Divorce is not grounds for excommunication, and never has been. Divorce and remarriage, without a decree of nullity, formerly was. As far as I recall, Jackie Kennedy Onassis was never divorced, much less divorced and remarried.

**Kerry is also divorced. How is it he is still considered a Catholic in good standing?**
A Divorced Catholic CAN receive Holy Communion -- as long as they do not remarry.
Also I am not aware that an annulment on the first marriage was ever granted to Kerry.

This is so important!
My family and friends will be praying for this to happen.
I am also going to pass this on to the Founder of the Holocaust Memorial. He and his wife along with their 11 children walk to the F.S.S.P. Latin Mass every day. They are a family of prayer warriors that will plead this most noble cause to Our Lady.

Turns out Kerry requested an annulment in '97 and it was denied, or more likely it didn't even get to the stage where it would be denied. I think that's correct. I've found several sources who refer to the application, but none that say the annulment was granted. Kerry divorced her, and then remarried without an annulment. I can't see how he can claim to be an observant Catholic after that.
It's also noted that his first wife, Julia Thome, came from a family that's worth close to $300m. He does like 'em rich, doesn't he?
To: AppyPappy
He never got the annulment. It was dropped when the unfortunate first Mrs. 'Kerry' objected.

I have lots of articles and links for Granholm also, if you want them.

>>Why should this be a problem, I thought Kerry was Jewish, why would he want to take communion?<<
Supposedly 'Kerry' only recently learned that his grandfather (maybe his great-grandfather, I forget) had changed his name from Fritz Kohn to Frederick Kerry and converted from Judaism to Catholicism. FWIW, Fritz committed suicide shortly after making the conversion.

I really don't care for this comment. Were you being sarcastic?

Post #83 was missing the word "waiting". I hope I didn't cause any confusion. It should have been:
"BTW, I'm waiting to see you post anything remotely absurd."

Have you checked on what has happened with indulgences lately? Are you sure about that statement??
Do a search for The Catechism of the Catholic Church.

They annulled a marriage that produced children?Wow. The Church has changed from when I took religion class.
Childbearing has no relationship to the validity of the marital consent. A man could attempt marriage to his sister and have 10 kids by her, but that wouldn't make them married in the eyes of the Church.
Whatever "religion class" you took, you ought to ask for your money back.

Divorce does not necessarily mean excommunication.

There is something quite demonic about that. Either he is spiritually retarded or he himself is evil. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he is the former. :-)
Lord, deliver us from self-righteous liberals...
