*If the military is supposed to be defending our freedoms in the US, why is all the action in other countries?*

Brad, Brad, Brad....
You shoot the gators before they get to the boat.

*...if the military were doing such a great job of defending our freedom, why do we have so much less of it than we had in 1787? In 1865? In 1912? In 1932? In 1960?*

Brad, Brad, Brad....
When last I read the US Law is made by Congress and the courts. I don't necessarily agree withsome of them, but I have taken an oath to protect and defend same. The military (I still serve proudly) doesn't make law, only upholds it.

*It is by this point uncontroversial that our freedoms would have been better defended without a standing military.*

Brad, Brad, Brad...
Uncontroversial? Pick which language and culture you would have preferred: Japanese, German or Soviet. Lets talk about the past.

Shooting the gators before they get to the boat...I love it!

A couple of observations:

I don't know many members of the military that walk around asking for acknowlegement. Mostly because we are keenly aware of being part of something bigger than ourselves. Hell, I'm almost emabarrassed when someone want to buy me a beer...I'd rather they give it to an enlisted Marine.

How was this guy's Dad in the AF for 24 years and "so good" but only made O-4 (unless he was prior enlisted)?

The dirty little secret on the left is that despite saying that they "support the troops but"...is that they really don't. They hope every action is another Vietnam, and break out "quagmire" at every opportunity because they hate and distrust the military, mostly because in their selfish little worlds they can't figure out why we do what we do.

Ship. Shipmate. Self.
