Governments thoughout history have funded patriotic art and memorials. The NEA designed the Vietnam Memorial, for example (or, rather sponsored its design).

And, while I'd happily pay for patriotic art- it's rather clear that a lot of other people won't. Therefore, government should encourage it.

I would prefer that this government be an exception to the rule of history. There has never been a nation like this before. But the statists among us are determined to send us down the same road as every other empire in history. This NEA crap is just a symptom of a lingering disease.

And if it's gonna be used for pro American propaganda, how are they going to convince all the radical leftist 'artists' who are currently sucking off the teat to either dislodge their lips or change their political outlook for the good of the country?

Bizarre.

Ken Burns' film The Civil War was partially funded by the NEA...

If you can't compete in the free market, you have no business being a filmmaker.
Just like Bill Moyers shouldn't have a tv program. His PBS gig would never survive
without government funding.

Are you serious?

Why should government be in the business of promoting art.

Isn't it great spending other people's money

Your words evince an utterly leftist/statist orientation, in utter contrast to your screen name.

Free markets, anyone?

I don't see anything in the Constitution authorizing the federal government to forcibly take money out of my wallet and give it to some "artist", no matter what it's spent on. Never mind the fact that it's largely been spent on prgrams designed to undermine my culture.

If I want art I'll buy it, thank you very much. I sure don't need any federal bureaucrat taking my money and giving it to Robert Mapplethorpe.
