What is going on? Republicans have been working for at least 10 years to Kill this Department and De-Fund it. Now why is Bush set to increase it to it's highest levels in 20 years? It is this kind of idiocy from Bush that makes me wonder what he, and of course Rove, are thinking. Spending is up under Bush, all these new programs he is proposing, like the Prescription Drug bill, are exploding federal spending all out of control. My God if I want Nanny State care and massive spending I can vote for Democrats. Where in the Hell is the Republican Leadeship on this? There ain't going to be any Hollywood votes for this and this really is pandering to the lowest degree along with the Immigration idea!!!

Bush is going to buy the Democrats' votes. They are foaming at the mouth just waiting for an excuse to vote for him, and now he will get the landslide he wanted. </sarcasm>

All the Liberals I know hate Bush no matter what he does. His pandering to the left is NOT going to get him many votes, if any, as I see it. If I were him, I would work on the Center and the Right, and hope to squeeze by in the election. Most Liberals have very closed minds and will pull the Dem levers in November regardless of how much money he throws at Liberal causes.

Try to imagine even one recipient of NEA grant money voting for Bush-- what a laugh! They don't call it the stupid party for nothing.

Well, I've supported Bush so far, but this is probably the thing that will push me over the edge.

Oh, I'll hold my nose and vote for him in November ONLY because the best Demoncrat is unacceptable for national security.

BUT, to me the increasing, as opposed to cutting or eliminating, the National Endowment for the Arts, is craven, stupid, pandering to people who hate everything America stands for. And, I'm a musician! I'm concerned about the loss of orchestras and live music, but I'm sure as hell not in favor of dipping the government's hands into the pockets of people who don't want to pay for culture in order to feel good.

It's Bush's "brilliant" triangulation policy -- socialize American before the Dems do it!

The result: more people will vote Republican.

The cost: those victorious Republicans will rule a socialist America.

This November, I'm voting Libertarian!

Oh great. The Bush's have endeared themselves to conservatives even more. Now we'll be financing a new round of "P.... on Christ" bottles, and calling it "Art".

I stated earlier that I would wait a while before commenting, and after about 22 hours, I now have an opinion to share.
I am not happy about this terrible decision of his, and I too am angery at "Dubya's" blatant apeal to the Libs. However, I try my best to avoid self infliction of pain, and am not mad enough at him to go out and vote for a Third party candidate on election day either!

I cant prove it but, I truly believe that his intentions for doing this are rooted in some strange political calculation, that I don't understand nor appreciate. But because I am unable to digest his latest cause celeb, I refuse to throw the baby out with the bath water!

We all remember how the Republican base treated his father, because he renigged on his "No New Tax" stand, along with other forgotten flip flops. George SR's response to his defeat by Clinton was that it was a political calculation that didn't pay off for him on either account, and he lost the white house because of it!

Well many said he had it coming and deserved to lose his support because he ignored his base. That is without a doubt the truth. But who paid for teaching Bush Sr. a lesson? We all did! For eight long, agonizing years we paid for teaching Bush Sr., and we are still paying today!

So, might I suggest that you rethink your support for him, unless of course you enjoyed the Clinton years, and would like to further the leagacy of the man from Hope.

In which case it is certain, that far more Liberal programs will get more support and funding than just the NEA, and those fiscally responsible Dems will be needing huge funding for all these programs, which will mean BIG TAX INCREASES for us all!
And of course with a Democrat in the White House, we will all feel more secure as a Nation too!
