If the new virus is attached to emails, how does it affect posts to a chat site?

two possible answers:

- the same servers are used for mail as well as message boards.
- in our shop, entire sections of the LAN are taken down to isolate them and then clean the mail servers there, so everything on that subnet goes down for a time.

Depends on the site I guess. No danger here because anything like that is filtered out. You can't even run scripts here.
