"barometric triggers" Does that mean that something may go off when the next weather front comes through.

No -- "barometric triggers" means it's pressure sensitive. i.e., when the airplane reaches a certain altitude, the stuff gets released -- I guess they wait until the flight is well under way, so they can't quickly turn back. People may not even know the stuff is released.

The bomb that brought down the plane over Scotland, had such a trigger, as I understand.
