I just can't see how they could get that past the airport security. Anything radiological should be picked up immediately.

You're assuming that the radiological device would have to pass through security and screening. What if its loaded on the airplane by Joe Jihad who works in secure areas.

Yes, you are right that thought entered my mind as I posted that. You would think they would use those "very popular" sniffing devices in the cargo hold of flights in question.

Exactly!

They can screen passenger luggage all day long and not find anything.

I think it's a bigger threat that someone working there could plant a bomb, than that a passenger could bring one on board.
