Plane makes emergency landing at IAH when passengers sickened

(1/30/04 - HOUSTON) — There's been an emergency situation involving a plane at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The pilot of Continental flight #176 made an emergency landing at IAH after radioing the tower and informing them of a pressurization problem, according to airport spokesperson Ernie DeSoto. After landing the plane, the crew declared a medical emergency, saying several people were overcome by fumes.

The flight was apparently headed from Houston to Philadelphia.

The ill people were taken off the plane and are being checked out by medical personnel. At least three people were believed to be sickened, but we don't yet know the extent of their injuries.
