Saddam's WMD hidden in Syria, says Iraq survey chief

David Kay, the former head of the coalition's hunt for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, yesterday claimed that part of Saddam Hussein's secret weapons programme was hidden in Syria.

In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph, Dr Kay, who last week resigned as head of the Iraq Survey Group, said that he had uncovered evidence that unspecified materials had been moved to Syria shortly before last year's war to overthrow Saddam.

"We are not talking about a large stockpile of weapons," he said. "But we know from some of the interrogations of former Iraqi officials that a lot of material went to Syria before the war, including some components of Saddam's WMD programme. Precisely what went to Syria, and what has happened to it, is a major issue that needs to be resolved."

Dr Kay's comments will intensify pressure on President Bashar Assad to clarify the extent of his co-operation with Saddam's regime and details of Syria's WMD programme. Mr Assad has said that Syria was entitled to defend itself by acquiring its own biological and chemical weapons arsenal.

Syria was one of Iraq's main allies in the run-up to the war and hundreds of Iraqi officials - including members of Saddam's family - were given refuge in Damascus after the collapse of the Iraqi dictator's regime. Many of the foreign fighters responsible for conducting terrorist attacks against the coalition are believed to have entered Iraq through Syria.

A Syrian official last night said: "These allegations have been raised many times in the past by Israeli officials, which proves that they are false."

Prediction: Assad pulls a Kaddaffi and hands the WMD over, in exchange for the Golan Heights/overall peace deal with Israel... in October...

I would not be surprised if something along these lines occur. Apparently Libya is already handing over WMD components.

But, why doesn't Dr.Kay come forward and give his statement directly to the public via TV.

Because Dr. Kay saw his British Counterpart get "Fostered".

O.K. Some basic math. 8500 liters is capable of killing roughly 100,000,000 people if handled correctly. O.K., just for the sake of making our liberal friends happy, let's just say it's handled poorly and we're actually at just 10,000,000. I guess that's still nasty enough to be called WMD. If my math is right, that's about 2300 gallons of this crud. So, in terms of 55 gallon drums, we're looking at about 47-48 barrels. You could, on an 18' truck, only one layer high (and they can usually fit two layers of 55 gallon drums on a tractor trailer) fit roughly 27 (3 X 9 with a 2' diameter). So, if somewhere in the course of heading to Damascus, he put 48 barrels of this stuff on there, we're looking at two trucks top to kill 10,000,000 people. That would be needle and haystack folks. Let's get real.

Yes I AM worried about one vial...apparently you did not bother to read the AMA info I posted to you:

Botulinum toxin is the most poisonous substance known.6-7 A single gram of crystalline toxin, evenly dispersed and inhaled, would kill more than 1 million people

LET ME REPEAT IT FOR YOU ONE MORE TIME:

ONE GRAM WILL KILL MORE THAN 1 MILLION PEOPLE!

And let me repeat these statements for you one more time. I guess you must have not been listening

The United Nations concluded in 1999 that Saddam Hussein had biological weapons sufficient to produce over 25,000 liters of anthrax -- enough doses to kill several million people. He hasn't accounted for that material. He's given no evidence that he has destroyed it.

The United Nations concluded that Saddam Hussein had materials sufficient to produce more than 38,000 liters of botulinum toxin -- enough to subject millions of people to death by respiratory failure. He hadn't accounted for that material. He's given no evidence that he has destroyed it.

Our intelligence officials estimate that Saddam Hussein had the materials to produce as much as 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent. In such quantities, these chemical agents could also kill untold thousands. He's not accounted for these materials. He has given no evidence that he has destroyed them

One gram does not, no matter how much you try to spin it, make the amount of WMDs the President said were there. I'm sure there are other crackpots and dictators out there that have one gram of botlinum toxin. Is this nation of states going to wage all out war on them too?

"AI....can you post a map of Syria where that air strike took place.I would love to match it up against a map that Syrian defector said the WMD are being hidden.
Also you can't destroy anthrax and VX with a high explosive it doesn't burn hot enough."

Ein Sahab is located at 333740N 0361535E in Syria. The Syrians allowed reporters into the camp the same day after the attack. The town is literally only a few hundred metres from the buildings in the valley that were destroyed. If there had been any chemical weapons stored there then the Syrians wouldn't have allowed reporters any where near it. The Israeli's were simply hitting a terrorist training camp in retaliation for earlier terrorist attacks.
