[history]
It's more than a little bit upsetting to hear supposedly responsible people, including President Bush, talk about expanding the presence of humans into space. Space projects cost huge sums of money, and money is the real subject of this letter.

I read your post twice, why would you assume that either 1. I could understand it or 2. that you wrote it so that a typical freeper could.
If you want to respond and continue this nonsense, go ahead; but this will be the last word on today's topic from me.

Because in you first response to me you implied that I did not wish for increased space funding. This was false but as it typical you refuse to admit your mistake.

How 'bout we go to Mars, but not at the taxpayer's expense.
The gov't could post a reward for the first company to establish a manned Martian base -- say $ 20 billion.
This would seem to satisfy both of youse guys -- mission accomplished without busting the budget.

I think the government should fund it. I also think the government should offer a large reward for tech that lowers the cost per pound to low earth orbit by 90%.
It's just that if people get upset about they deficit they have this annoying habit of having those they elect into office kill the 'wasteful' science programs. Bush's willingness to go along with all the spending increases just gives those people more ammo. Cut the budget & INCREASE space spending AT THE SAME TIME, if not we will have another SSC on our hands.

Your argument seems to be that you don't like wasteful gov't spending unless its wasted on programs that excite your intellectual curiosity.

A couple of points:
We have in the past used date of signup as a clear indicator of possible DU disruptors. Given FR's longevity at this point, that method may no longer be valid. Democrat disruptors may have shown up years ago when FR first became clearly a place of influence.
In much the same way that the far left becomes displeased with Democrat left leaning centrists, we *may* have people here from the far right displeased with Bush, who is a right leaning centrist. Or we may have disruptors. If you are a disruptor and you do not wish to have your posts pulled or your membership cancelled, clearly the best way to do damage to your opposition is to make comments to create an impression of Bush being further and further away from the right. Enshroud yourself in an aura of far right conservatism. It's not new. And it is dangerous to victory.
The best defense is for everyone to remember the immortal words of W F Buckley.
"I support the most rightward candidate who is viable."
It's not rocket science.

And possibly as early back as March 26th, 1998! :-P

Does anyone of FR read what they are responding to? Why should we read beyond the headline? We're just taking a poll most of the time.

Since we have derivied a lot of benifit from the space program in the past it stands to reason that it may happen in the future. On the other hand, society doesn't derive a lot of benifit from most of the pork that congress passes.
