I think that this story has the power to hurt President Bush in that it will make it very, very difficult in the future to pursue potential threats based on the same rationale.

Why? We did/are doing the right thing in Iraq. WMD programs were discovered. Besides the fact that there were reasons cited beyond WMD, the WMD programs in the hands of SH alone was justification for regime change in Iraq.

There was and is a credibility hit due to this. Them's the breaks. There is nothing to hang our head over.

I think we're doing the right thing too, but I do think that enough doubt has been cast over intelligence sources ability to accurately predict the existence of WMD, that should we ever have to act unilaterally again, summoning the support of the electorate will then be very, very difficult.

I think Kay's resignation is likely to hurt the President, as Kay was no boy of Blitz. I could be wrong, and I hope that I am.
