80 miles per hour is absolutely necessary according to many who are on the CA freeways (and the street in front of my house I might add)

California freeways are fine for that speed. This idiot was on a surface street. You don't do that kind of speed on surface streets. Glad he didn't take anyone with him.

yes you're right... summertime over here where I live, it's motorcycles at all hours of the night (oil slicks are not that visible when one is going 120 mph).

About 22 years ago, a comely co-worker was killed when she and her hubby accepted a thrill ride with a friend who'd just picked up a new BMW 320i. A lot more car than the rice rockets I see puling up and down Westheimer Road in Houston like they're bad or something (I remember what a GTO sounded like under full military power, side-by-side with a 4-4-2 -- it was like mating season in the Lost World; you could hear them three miles away), nevertheless the guy overtaxed it by taking it out on a long, straight two-lane highway through the southeast Texas marshlands and cranking it up. At some point he went airborne for an impressive distance, and jammed the speedo at 115 when came back down. Of course, if he were no longer in contact with the pavement, the speedo reading was unreliable. But one got an idea.

Eventually, someone found the wreck and summoned the hearses and wreckers.
