California heating up?
Posted on 01/21/2004 1:56:19 PM PST by LittleJoe
I live in the Sierras about 100 miles north of Sacramento. The water from my well has turned hot. The county inspector just left. He said he has been inspecting wells in this county for over twenty years and this is the first time he has seen this happen!
Anyone else have water turning hot? This is really weird!

Too true.
I'd still rather know, than not know.

It's very active. We were there summer before last. It's a very interesting place. There are ponds of boiling water. There are areas that stink of sulphur. It's interesting.

I guess it should be comforting that it's Jr High
instead of
4th grade.

Mount Lassen is an active volcanic area. While not as famous or big as Yellowstone, I can vividly remember visiting there on numerous occasions and seeing the bubbling mud pots. I had great fun rolling boulders down Chaos Crags as a teenager.
If I recall correctly, it last erupted around 1915, and it was explosive as most volcanos in the Pacific northwest are.
There are many precursors to eruptions, so I wouldn't take the advice of anyone to move. You might be seeing the signal of something that could happen in the next few years.

MAYBE USGS would have a map that would have a series of quakes connecting the dots . . . so to speak.

It exploded circa 1910. It is considered merely dormant.

The quake maps on this thread are from USGS. Quakes show for a week, but the general pattern has been like it is now for a month. There have been mag 5 quakes all over the globe including one last week at the North Pole, but these lines of quakes seem to be staying.

I got concerned about LittleJoe and took a ride over to his Ponderosa Ranch, and this is what I saw. Will keep you all posted.
