California heating up?
Posted on 01/21/2004 1:56:19 PM PST by LittleJoe
I live in the Sierras about 100 miles north of Sacramento. The water from my well has turned hot. The county inspector just left. He said he has been inspecting wells in this county for over twenty years and this is the first time he has seen this happen!
Anyone else have water turning hot? This is really weird!

In a worst case scenario, can we deduct a portion of California's electoral votes equal to the fatalities? If Nebraska becomes beach front property, there may be time to fly there with family and pets but don't tell the liberals whatever you do.

P.S. LJ, I've done Caltrans work up there at the Mineral and Hat Creek facilities and in Susanville and out at Honey Lake. The best time for an eruption, or even for your water temp to just get up to ~200 degrees, would be on a weekend, particularly during trout season. I'd bring the beer, and we could poach them in your bathtub ;)
Seriously though, I'll be calling a few friends who've been here longer and getting some input, I'll get back to you with anything interesting...

So are the wells around Yellowstone National Park. From what I understand it could get very hot along the west coast here in the not to distant future. Do a search on your browser and read about it all over the place.

How deep is your well, and do you have a submersible pump?

"Anyway, I've got a couple of strange SUVs heading up my road, so my answer may be near. Gotta go..." Maybe some investors already interested in buying your hot springs resort. Really though. Who are they?

Not to alarm you, but there has been a line of seismic events leading from the earthquake a month ago in the middle of California directly to the Yellowstone supervolcano.

Boise was named by a french explorer, I forget his name.
He came over the mountians and looked into the valley below and said "Le Bwaue" sp?? It means "The Trees" Boise has lots of trees but it is close to the desert. You can find lots of different ecology classes really close. There is a decent sized rived running through the middle of town, sagebrush desert just outside of town, a large ski resort 16 miles up the hill from downtown, 3 large dams with lakes close by. The snake river is not far ie 50 or so miles, and for more than that there is the Sawtooth Primative area, like the Sierras only lots better, with a lot less people. I moved away 25 years ago but go back often.

The other thing you need to be concerned about is the presence of poisonous or oxygen displacing gases.
Radon is something you should have your home inspected for, and also keep in mind that heavier-than-air gases may sometimes be a by-product of geothermal or seismic activity.
Whole villages have been killed by eruptions of poison gases originating from mountain lakes in Africa. The gases are heavier than air, and hug the ground as they travel, displacing oxygen in front of it.
I'd hire an inspector to come out and sample the water and the air. I'd have a plan for getting people into another living situation if you find out you have Radon or something else.
