It's terrible. Even I've been praying for them, and I'm not a prayerful kind of man.

Having been through this with a family member, I remain convinced that this disease is nothing but pure evil evil evil (also a sentiment expressed by the pastor at said loved one's funeral). It is good to know, though, that through the prayer of others, the Lord can continue to hold tight to an Alzheimer victim's hand even when the victim no longer has the capacity to pray or reach out for the Lord's hand.

I'm sure your heartfelt prayers are heard, mrustow!

I clicked to the article you linked to, and this is the very reason that, having never picked up an instrument before or having never been able to read a note of music (not even in church hymnals), in my mid-30's, I have taken up learning a musical instrument and am also trying to learn to read music. I also have encouraged my husband to take up a long-abandoned musical instrument as well. We're watching less TV and spending more time together as a side benefit. I'm working on learning "Oh Danny Boy," so that when Ronald Reagan breaks free of this horrid disease and goes to be with the Lord, I can stand in my front yard and play the song to the heavens in Pres. Reagan's memory.

My prayers are with him. I lost my mom to Alzheimer's three years ago. The most heartbreaking part is that you really don't have a specific date as to when you loose your loved one with this disease. Their body gives out on a specific date but they are lost to you right under your nose without you even realizing that they left. It is much like watching a thief steal you loved one a day at a time until before you know it they are not there anymore. You are left caring and loving a cruel reminder of what your loved one used to be.

Way to go! Studies have shown you're never too late to learn musical instrument. Same way I know (and learned) computer a lot more than high school kiddies.

Appreciate the ping showing that everyone with a true desire can become a success in America. Prayers to the family and close friends.
