Certainly won't be hard to influence this one. The Desert Sun, by the way, is running an editorial cartoon accompanying this poll that shows President Bush as a little boy riding a rocket to mars, dollars pouring out the back of the rocket.

If this is taxes with reprsentation
Give me taxes without representation
I much prefer a tax on tea!
Instead of everything else.

Isn't this the Palm Spring area .. if so .. it's mostly retired people and they could care less about the space program.

Is there cheese on Mars? If not, I see no point in wasting those dollars when they could be much better spent where we actually live.
To: CyberAnt
No, Palm Springs is not mostly retired, although people do retire here. There is a large population of gays (the second San Francisco some say) and many working people. Also quite a few celebrities call it their second (third, fourth) home.

Certainly, we don't want any future astronauts buying tacos from the Martians when we get there... Wait! No Taco Stand on Mars you say?!
Gosh, I guess it was spent here on Earth then...

If there is an important, National Security reason we need to beat the world to Mars, the President ought to tell us straight. Otherwise that money is needed here.

wasting those dollars when they could be much better spent where we actually live. Don't see a lot of greenbacks falling off the Mars lander. If they sent the money to Mars you'd expect to see the money on Mars.

I think we can find money to do a few other things too. The spin off from the effort will bring great advances in our standard of living, our technologies that will more than offset the cost.
Read Krauthammer's current column and you will change your opinion on this issue. It very clearly points up what a good move this is for our space program, a very good change of direction.
Now go the poll and VOTE YES! If for no other reason than to support President Bush against his detractors.

Every dollar spent on research is a dollar not spent on giving an illegal alien free abortions or welfare.
Besides, we get many, many benefits from the space program.
