Teri Garr, 53, who has appeared in more than 50 films, including Tootsie...

There is some serious fudging of Her age going on here. Teri appeared in a episode of star trek in 1968, which according to My math would make her approx. 18 when she did the role. She clearly appears to be in her mid 20's in the episode. At least she tried this time to make it believable. At one time in her career she was quoting an age which would've made her 12 at the filming of that episode!. When called on the discrepancy, she denied having done an episode of star trek.

If these Ladys(?) weren't so self-indulgent with their money maybe, just maybe, they could start their own film companies and make teir ow movies. The way the Clint Eastwood and Mel Gibson have.

Other interviewees said that they had financial problems when the parts dried up. Theresa Russell, 46, says: "It was really hard, I didn't get an audition for years and I started running out of money. I thought, what else can I do? I resent being in this situation. They want to put you out to pasture."

Oh, boo hoo. Maybe she should have saved some money when she was at the peak of her career. Or prepared for another one, as she should have known that women in this business have a limited shelf life. Maybe she could teach drama, or is that beneath her?

With so many of my friends and acquaintances here in NYC laid off and otherwise out of work, I have a hard time whipping up much sympathy for these women. Nobody forced them into this career and to turn up their noses at less glamorous, less lucrative jobs. Because of economic and market conditions, I'm going from graphic design into fitness training. It's called "economic reality."

This is the free market at work. Studios persistently try to produce a 'classic' movie, but often make flash-in-the-pan movies to make a buck. That is what they are paid to do. In all honesty, there will not be a great movie every year. That takes rare talent to combine together. These actresses are part of the 'flash' to sell mediocre movies. Live with it, deal with it. Actors and actresses should consider themselves lucky to have taken a part in a memorable movie. Most will not.

This sounds like someone griping that they didn't get to be division manager or CEO of a company. There are not that many positions available. People get left behind. Only in Hollywood will you hear about the 'injustices' of the workplace. Give me a break.

Make an indie movie -- they work and earn big bucks as well, if they target the right audience. If women want to see older women in film, then an indi studio would make a film, make a lotta bucks on it and the studios would clamour to make duplicates. It's market forces pure and simple.
