You may be kidding, but, don't be surprised if that's the very next thing they'll be asking for.
This is the beginning of the next territorial colonialization and thus colonial "wars". Back in 1492, America was even more remote than Mars. In fact "nobody" knew it existed - the voyage was just as perilous and expensive, the returns just as questionable.
Spain took a chance with Columbus, and laid claim to the new found lands.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see history repeat itself. Of course, this time we're Spain, and the planets are America. The rest of the world (especially the Europeans) has a couple of choices - it can either compete with us and try to get there as well and lay claim to its piece, or it can coherce us to share by other means, such as bullying us in the UN, whining incessantly and calling us names and hoping that our left will come to their rescue.
By the way, back in 1492, the UN was the Vatican. Portugal was Spain's competing power - it complained to the pope about Spain hogging everything, they came to a deal and that's why brazil ended up portuguese.
