W's Legacy: A List of the President's Conservative Actions
Here, there , and everywhere | 1-13-04 | Constantine XIII

Posted on 01/13/2004 8:53:57 PM PST by Constantine XIII

It is my firm belief that our current President, George W. Bush, has been a much more conservative president than any of us ever dreamed when we elected him in 2000. These days, many people seem to labor under the impression that he is not, and point to one or two actions that they think are irredeemable. They then go on to loudly proclaim that 1) W is a liberal in elephant's clothing and 2) they will not vote for him in 2004.

I can see where these folks are coming from, but I think that they are not seeing the whole picture. We need to show these people, who mostly good folks who are still on the side of freedom, how great a president W has been. If you know of something he has done while in office to further the cause of conservatism, read the list and if it is not already listed, put it there.

In this way we can help our fellow FReepers get a better grasp of what sort of president we really have!

Thanks,

C13

6. Engaged in a war inconsequential to American interests

This site becomes just a little bit more like MoveOn.org each and every day.

The ONLY way to be a true conservative in politics is to (1) maintain an ethical, moral standard (which Bush has done) and (2) decrease the amount of money that government has to spend (Bush has not done that). I have no problems with (1), but have MAJOR problems with (2). As long as government spends more and more and more money, it will continue to drain us dry. Bush should do the following: cut the amount of money spent each year by 5% until it reaches approximately one-half of what is being spent right now. That is the ONLY way to limit government. It is not by term limits, campaign reform, blah, blah, blah. You have to cut off the source of its power--our money.

Allowed the captain of the U.S.S.Oldsmobile to write, with his approval, an ''education'' bill that trebles spending over 5 years without ANY guarantee of improved result (and, don't bat your gums at me about ''high-stakes'' testing -- what a fraud).

Cheered on the LARGEST pork-o-rama extravaganza ''farm'' bill, whose excesses would make even LBJ blush.

''Triangulated'' so-called health care issues to steal them from the 'Rats, and proved that he cannot add (at least beyond the end of his putative maximum term) by piling yet another subsidy onto the bankrupt SS/SMDI system -- hey, let's cheer for your and my buying Bill Gates' pills when he gets older (and that's EXACTLY what we'll be doing, whether he accepts the subsidy or not).

And, then, there's the ''Every Mexican deserves to be a citizen, whether or not he/she/it follows the lawfully prescribed procedures, and if he/she/it doesn't -- no problem. ALL you folks can pay for the consequences, and p*ss on ya.''

No, I will not vote again for Mr. Bush (unless Hitlery happens to be the 'Rat candidate).

What a bummer. Oh well. BTW did you vote for him last time?

Bush never defined himself as a hard conservative, as you point out. Many people assumed he would be because the left hates him so much. He didn't have to say he was conservative. The radical leftists defined him as such. The more the leftists hate Bush, the more conservative votes he gets. I sincerely believe that the Rats love BJC as much as they do because the right hates him so much.

Most of the country simply isn't as conservative as FR. While there are some things I'd like to see GWB do differently, I don't think there's much chance of getting a more conservative President than Bush.

Reagan is still, IMHO, the best President of my lifetime, but I respect GWB for the moves he's made to protect this country. I'm not sure we'll ever realize just how many terrrorist attacks have been averted.

My memory is also not so short that I can't remember who was deciding policy four years ago, and would love to be back in power.

Yep. Remember ''broken-glass Republicans''? After 8 years of sleaze, corruption, criminality and treachery, I was one; was absolutely delighted to vote for a decent man who **appeared** to at least be a reasonable holder of at least mildly conservative values. Oops.

While I applaud Mr. Bush's conduct of foreign policy (mostly, except for the odious Colin Powell's presence), in terms of domestic policy we now have a president well to the left of JFK. Sorry, can't vote for the man again.

You forgot
1. Promised to sign renewal of assault weapons ban
2. Signed unconstitutional campaign finance reform bill
3. Massive increase in government spending
4. Largest new entitlement program in 30 years
5. Amnesty for illegal immigrants
6. Engaged in a war inconsequential to American interests
7. Weak on china

I'm sure I'll think of more.

Wants to give illegal aliens amnesty
sign into law medicare drug benifit
These are two off the top of my head.
