That would scare the hell outta me, especially with the cubs there.

me too! Sheesh. There was a sow with FOUR cubs regularly vandalizing people's garbage and birdfeeders in my mom's small town, and I didn't find this out until a few weeks *after* my girls had been there, sleeping outside in a tent in the backyard!!

DNR wouldn't do anything. I was about ready to go up and sit in my neighbor's backyard with my bow, after recruiting someone to haul it away should I be successful.

Well, after the initial shock, I figured it was better to remain still. Bugger didn't know I was there until it happened to glance down the two track in my direction. Not much I'm gonna do with a 16 gage, and that close, there wasn't any way to get out of harm's way.

I did know, however, that that third rustle had to be a cub. Ain't no way I'm getting between that and momma.

Another good story: there was a restaurant up North that had these large plate glass windows looking out into the woods. The staff thought it would be neat to dump scraps out back and have the customers watch the oh-so-cute bears eat. One night, there was a whole crowd of people at the buffet table watching the bears, who were only separated by that plate glass. Took an edict from the authorities to shut that operation down.

In a way, its too bad. Bear on the menu, especially well fed bear, would have been pretty tasty.
