``The economy is exhibiting tremendous productivity at this point and businesses are slow to rehire,'' said Chris Rupkey, senior financial economist at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Ltd. in New York, before the report. The statistics ``throw into question the belief that the labor market is close to recovery.'' How long will they be able to maintain the fiction that this "rise in productivity" is not due to shiping factories and jobs overseas?

Some guy on Fox and Friends said we added 1,000,000 jobs last year because these numbers don't account for new people entering self-employment.

The ONLY way to stop businesses from leaving is to stop PENALIZING them for making money. Reduce the corporate tax rate to 0%. Let people pay taxes on their income...Don't punish the corporation (shareholders, and workers, and CONSUMERS) through this ridiculous tax. Drop tax rates for business and individuals...Increase the incentive to make money in America, and you will more than make up for lost revenue by having MORE TAXPAYERS.

The jobs added number probably doesn't take into account the hundreds of thousands of jobs added by illegal immigrants. Hell, we don't even know how many of the slime are here. Maybe V. Fox knows, let's ask him.

an absolutely horrendus jobs report, we will likely be shifting back to loss of jobs in these reports in coming months as corporate offshoring plans for 2004 kick into high gear and the layoffs materialize. the service sector cannot create enough burger flipper and checkout clerk jobs to stop the bleeding in tech, white collar, and manufacturing (down for the 41st straight month).
Now we likely see why Bush made the alien amnesty gambit. They must see the handwriting on the wall for jobs reports in 2004, they have to get votes from someplace.
I know that most freepers trash talk those of us who have been warning about offshoring of jobs. All I can say is: WAKE UP BEFORE ITS TOO LATE. We created 1000 jobs last month when 150,000 were expected. We have 8% economic growth and no job creation, what's going to happen when we fall back to 3-4% growth.
I can't wait to hear that idiot Neil Cavuto tonight explain this away.

None of their magic math works. Things are up and down at the same time. Spare me from analysts.

We have been letting in 200,000 immigrants each month for decades, 1000 new jobs menas that means 199,000 more immigrants dont have a job compared to last month. Not much of a recovery.
If we are going to keep letting in 50,000 more immigrants each week, we need to add more than 50,000 more jobs each week, and more than 200,000 new jobs each month just to stay even.

"Employment in service-producing industries...rose by 13,000 Retail employment declined 38,000... Factory employment...declined by 26,000...
The rise in service jobs was led by a 45,000 increase... Education and health services employment rose 21,000.
Construction employment increased 14,000 for second straight month..."
Somebody please check my math...
13,000-38,000-26,000+45,000+21,000+14,000 = 29,000 new jobs
Not great, but better than the 1,000 reported in this article.
