Now I understand why the (new) Republican party runs like it does.

"To return to the restaurant again, I mean, no one has been getting sick from the food there. So where is the probable cause for the health inspector to be coming around the place?" Uh bouy . .
I ran operations that fed up to 1,000 people in one sitting, 3,000 in an afternoon. Plus, I've run various food service operations in different parts of the world.
I always viewed the health inspector as my friend. If my kitchen produced food poisoning, my cooks would take some of the heat, by I would take most of it.
And word of mouth travels like greased lightning when it come to somebody being food poisened - BOTTOM LINE is lost business and revenue.
Not sure if I could consider the NIS boys as necesarily "friends" as I would a health inspector.
The restaurant/bar business can be hell. So can being a president. But a polititian - they come from hell.

It looks like I'll be giving the Constitution Party some very serious thought. I like the platforms I've seen from them. I may have found a home.
I am with you. The more I look at their platform, the more I keep asking myself why I am not on board with them. This party is perfect for Alan Keyes supporter types. Whom I voted for over Bush in the Republican Pres. primary election. I did vote for GW for President, but it will not happen again. Even though his immigration plan is just a proposed outline for Congress to start with, he has shown his true colors on this issue. "The lesser of two evils , is still evil ", Alan Keyes. I would not/will not call Pres. Bush evil, I thank God that Gore lost the election, but the Presidents outline proposal, if not changed dramatically, will severely hurt hard working Americans and this country, for sure.

These are all good ideas. However, all that is really needed is "#8 Seize the assets of businesses knowingly hiring Illegals under the RICO Act, as they are ongoing criminal enterprises. Prosecute executives who knowingly hire Illegals."
And one you didn't mention. Station INS agents at hospitals, clinics, schools, etc., to arrest and deport any criminal alien trying to use our social services.
These options require no new laws and little or no extra spending. They use the irrevocable law of supply and demand to solve the problem and because they do not require any new laws, they can be implemented any time we can get a president who cares as much about the rule of law and keeping the country safe as he cares about his personal political career.
When the illegal aliens cant get illegal work and cant suck our social services dry, they will go home where they belong and there will be no incentive for other criminals to come here in their place.
This isnt rocket science. It is an easy problem to solve. Eliminate the incentive to break the law and the law breaking stops. The free market solves the problem.

I don't hire illegals. That means the INS has no frickin' business wandering into my place of business without a warrant. ABSOLUTLY RIGHT !!!! This needs to be repeated and often.
However, there is no reason to allow criminals to continue their illegal operation. The INS just needs to get a warrant when inspecting a business. When a business is illegally employing lots of criminal aliens there is generally plenty of probable cause, so getting a warrant to inspect their records and ID their employees is no big deal.
Nor is it a violation of anyones rights to park marked INS cars and vans outside the criminal business. When the illegal aliens show up for work and see uniformed INS agents and marked INS vehicles, most of them will turn around and leave. A few days of this will put a real dent in the criminal employers productivity.
We dont have to trash whats left of the Bill of Rights to solve this problem. All we need is an administration that believes in the rule of law.

Pooh, I don't know, and the FR Poll is anecdotal at best, but if you are referring to Poll's on "Illegal Immigration", I think we can all agree that they consistantly run in the 70 percentile against "Illegal" Immigration and has held steady for at least a decade. Media Poll's are suspect and they always have been, depending on how the question is asked and who is asked. Another poster say's I am in the minority, and I'm sorry but 65 is bigger than 21 by 3, so maybe that poster misread. 2000 was close by anybody's standard's, even Rove's. The Uniter did nothing to help improve that with this proposal. We have no choice but to wait for Congress to act, and hopefully they'll see this outburst and seal our borders before anything else. Perhaps we should invade Mexico and rid the world of another despot, absorb them and their resources and move on. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the WH. I understand the rats are loving this, but who's fault is it? Our's or George's? Blackbird.
To: Tamsey
Conservatives who vote third party while our national security hangs in the balance...
Defend this stance with open border's. National Security takes a backseat with this proposal, and yet you support it wholeheartedly. You are all over the place. Any argument in a pinch, huh!? How many islamonuts have infiltrated our borders with these Illegals flooding across? How many more are to come with the new millions? Where's that National Security now? Spare me. Blackbird.
To: BlackbirdSST
Perhaps we should invade Mexico and rid the world of another despot We should have done that when the first time the Mexican army crossed our border and attacked our citizens. Clinton let them get away with it and so did Bush.
We have a hostile cesspool on our southern border. Their army attacks us inside our borders and we do nothing except kiss their ass. They sided with Saddam in the U.N. and this president ignored it. His youre either with us or against us crap is very selective. It looks like it only applies to countries that compete with his fathers business interests.
We can send our military to Liberia to take sides in a civil war that has nothing what so ever to do with our interests, or with us, but we cant protect American citizens inside our own borders from attacks from a foreign military.
But what the hell, the president is a Republican and almost as popular as Clinton was, so lets forget all this. The important thing is he can win an election and he is a Republican. Everything else is unimportant.

Illegal aliens can't vote to begin with... Ever hear of Motor Voter? This proposal will legitimize these ILLEGALS, and guess what, part in parcel to that will be Driver's License. Defacto voter's, by the hordes. Keep ignoring this at you own peril. Blackbird.
Maybe you should reign back all that pent up anger your bucking and stop biting the heads of fellow posters off merely because they don't share your world view on certain issues, particularly this one. Just because we're all FReepers doesn't mean we all have to think alike
Maybe you should spend some time contemplating how wrong you are instead of attempting to psychoanalyse your fellow FReepers. You made a statement, I countered with at least anecdotal evidence that you are wrong, who got angry? Learn Spanish and fear for your Job, your Family, and your Country. That would be productive. If we don't shoot this down NOW, I'm the least of your worries. Blackbird.

I'd say Kelly's estimate is more useful than yours. The 88,000 mile figure includes all the little estuaries, nooks and crannies, a certain distance up the length of rivers, etc. For the purpose of actually patrolling the coasts the 12,000 figure is more useful because it would be done from the water, not land. You wouldn't bother patrolling an entire bay when you can just patrol the opening to the bay and so forth.

Just talked to another good friend about our illustrious presiden't decision on immigration.
This is not the first call I've gotten on this - I've had several.
Each one are up in arms over utter disgust, disbelief, and awe.
Each are Republicans who have voted party line an average of forty to fifty years.
Each agree on one thing: Bush lost a minimum of 10% of his support in one fell swoop. In one day he has successfully manged to do the near impossible - alienate at least 25% of ALL Republicans.
Hell hath no fury like a Republican scorned.

8. Later this month President Bush will give his State of the Union Address to the nation. What topic are you most interested in hearing the president talk about during his speech? (OPEN ENDED)

Take the FReeper Poll
After hearing President Bush's speech, do you approve of his immigration reform plan?
Yes
415 votes - 22%
No
1,234 votes - 65%
Undecided
237 votes - 12%
1,886 votes total; you voted "No"
To: Poohbah
"What's the term again? ILLEGAL immigration? Does that not imply that ENFORCING the LAWS against illegal immigration is LAW ENFORCEMENT?...Please explain which 'hostile military' the illegal aliens belong to."
Have you found THE loophole for hordes of invaders to infiltrate the United States of America?
Do you mean to say that an invading "hostile military" can only be regarded as such if they are wearing fatigues and carrying arms?
To: Happy2BMe
That about matches the rest of the country. I figure about 75% of American's are against the Bush plan.
