Go ahead and triple or maybe even quadruple the wage of a lettuce picker in order to make the job attractive to Americans, and watch the cost of lettuce rise beyond belief.
Then proportionately, the cost of that dinner salad that you get with your entree at TGI Friday's goes up, which means that the operator's cost goes up, which means that he'll have to charge more for the dinner, which means that your taxes on that meal go up, as does the amount of your tip to the waiter.
Anti-immigration fanatics? This is not about anti-immigration; this is about anti-ILLEGAL immigration.
If we really need a huge influx of foreign workers to grow our economy, then let's bring them in legally. My family were immigrants; they came here legally. There are millions of people waiting patiently in line all around the world to come to this country legally. No shortage of potential workers.
So what is with this desire screw those people and to grant legal status to the ones who have shown such utter contempt for our laws?
