I voted for Keyes in the primary and Bush in the election --- but with reservations --- I thought it was important that Gore not win.

I would implore you to have a little faith. Bush takes our domstic security and war against "invaders" every bit as seriously as he does our war against the Terror slime in Iraq, Afghanistan and Indonesia.

His overtures to Fox are a realistic assessment that a strong, resolute and honest partner governing in the halls of Mexico City are exponentially more important in stemming this illegal surge than are 10,000, hell 100,000, gun toting American Patrol cowboys or DHS Border cops meandering through the Sonora Desert. We need Vincente, he gives us more support than he can show publicly (just like all Bush's foreign leadership partners worldwide), and Bush is meeting with him in Mexico to prop Fox' political foundation. So he can attack the problem on HIS side.

You guys take Fox's every utterance as a perilous threat. He's playing to HIS extreme political constituencies, and Bush lets him be the independent, strong and Mexican first leader he NEEDS to be to survive. Not just politically .... mortally! Fox is a Bush ally. An American ally. Make no mistake about that. We need him as a powerful steward in that country. There's no other way he can attack the corrupt north state Federales who are facilitating this "invasion" into our territory.

I will never fathom how anyone of good will and motivation here can view George W. Bush and accept that he would jeopardize our economy, security and soverignity in any way. It's not a good faith analysis of the situation at hand.

That's why I'm quick to sour on these threads.
