I have only rarely seen the RCC get this bold in the USA in the last several decades. I wonder if one reason is that they could well get sued to lose their 401(c)(3) charity status.

As a Catholic, I can say that the Church, especially in the USA, is filled up to the rafters with libs, and linguini spines. There are some real men of God, too. They and the "grass roots" are beginning to effect some significant changes back towards orthodoxy. Sometimes it can be a fight, which is also true regarding Christianity across the board.
