U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., recently filed a bill to require colleges to disclose the race and economic status of first-year students related to alumni...

If I'm not mistaken, Ted Kennedy, Al Gore, and their kids all got into Harvard. Kennedy's son is certainly no genius. At any rate, Texas Republicans ought to use their majority to ban racial quotas, now that the Supreme Court has overruled the Fifth Circuit's 1995 decision that "diversity" is not an excuse to practice reverse discrimination.

Today, nearly all selective private universities and some public universities give an edge to legacies, largely to boost alumni giving.

So, they're bashing A&M for doing something that is pretty routine.

But I will bet that Howard, Spelman, and Florida A&M do no such thing. /sarcasm

A word of warning to all liberals out there:

DO NOT MESS WITH AGGIES.

Highway 6 runs both ways. If you don't like it, get the hell out of town.

This is, of course, a red herring. Under the current plan, students in the top 10% of their high school class are admitted to A&M, regardless of their race. But while 62% of white applicants admitted at A&M choose to attend, only 33% of Asian-American aplicants, 44% of African-American applicants and 48% of Hispanic aplicants enroll:

It's a yield issue, not an admissions issue.

Why should a rich black kid be accepted over anyone else? A&M is giving preference to kids who have overcome adversity, so if a poor Black kid applies, he will be given priority, just like a poor white kid.

But for legacy admissions, I'd be flippin' burgers, dude (but only if I had the right contacts)!
