This coming from a guy who probably never saw a black person until he was in his 20s.

Oh, come now, sir -- let's be fair. I expect that they had a black maid in the mansion, and perhaps a black janitor.

According to the NYT piece on the " we're just like everyone else Dean family-except we have baby nurses, prep schools, Park Ave and East Hampton homes,servants and memberships in exclusive country clubs" -Howard Brush Dean III's only exposure to actual black people may have been the backstairs maids.
