"The only part government should play is to stop lawyers from filing frivolous malpractice suites. Insurance companies pay them off, then raise rates on everyone."
Man, living in the states, I could not BELIEVE how bloody complicated it was to go to the doctor! And apperently I had good insurance! You guys better reel in your lawyers, their endless lawsuits are your real threat! By the way, I wonder what the ratio of people that die because they couldn't get on the list to get surgery in time is compared to the ratio of people that risk it and just put it off to save $$$....

Ya, that's our secret. Crush the twenty dollar an hour mop swingers (etc.) union. Crush the nurses and doctors union too, but pay them well anyways. That's our solution.
'merican system could work good too, just got to use those guns on the lawyers instead of on human beings more often. Could use the money saving in litiagation and litigation prevention to put in a second tier system for the poor (or topless spongebaths for the rich, not my country, it's their decision.)

When government bureacrats run a system - any system - they make the rules.
That is why we have so many Canadians coming to Buffalo NY to get routine surgery that would take months or years to get in Toronto.
