Basically the article is largely fabricated nonsense written by an idiot who doesn't have the foggiest idea of what the hell he's talking about, with a few tiny grains of semi-truth scattered within it.

"This article is VERY much overhyped and seems written by a kook." My thoughts exactly.
There are a few things clicking for it though.
Namely, the Norris Geyser area has been CLOSED and that give some validity to the story.
200 degree ground temps - yikes!
Nobody can get into the Norris area to verfiy - it's been closed!

"This explains why the trout aren't biting this year at Yellowstone".
Hey, where did you fish this year?

Volcanic ash would coat places as far away as Iowa and the Gulf of Mexico I thought this was just an "up north" concern. We can handle ash though. We get that from Mexico when they burn fields:')

This guy never heard of the inverse-square law. From the blast anyway. The article mentions sulphur smell, and I wonder if he's considering hydrogen sulphide, volcanic ash, assorted sulphur acids, and such in his prediction. I could possibly see that (600 miles) happening if it was a truly huge eruption (krakatoa sized at least).

The last eruption was 640,000 years ago making the next one long overdue. Scientists make these guesstimates all the time. There's no way for sure to know when Yellowstone may erupt and there's no exact time when the last eruption occurred. It could be another 10,000 - 40,000 years ago before Yellowstone blows it lid.
By the time it blows we'd be long gone. So who cares and let's crack open some beers!!

Perhaps the magma moving so close to the surface is *causing* global warming!!! ;)

Yeah, that's what the citizens of Pompeii and Krakatoa thought too.

I was in Spokane during the Mt. St. Helens eruption... volcanic ash inches thick on everything... Lot's still in that area. No one in our area died, but farmland products were hurt, car engines clogged and stopped, which meant no grocery deliveries... ON the bright side, there was lots of "volcanic ash" pottery for sale soon aferwards ;)

200 degree ground temps - yikes! Steam traveling from deeper regions could do that. Is it situated so that another geyser might be created?

"...they were convinced the "government was covering up" the fact that Long Valley was about to explode, etc. etc."
If somehow the government did have some warning signs of something like this happening, what do you think the government would do?

"Mt. St. Hellens (50 miles NNE of my house) blew by the hot magma flashing the subterranean water in the mountain into steam." The article says Yellowstone Lake water temp at the bottom is 80'F and that a magma bulge has reached a height of over 100'

Some of us like our disaster stories too much. LUCIFER'S HAMMER. FARNHAM'S FREEHOLD. EMERGENCE. Extinction scenarios look especially good when the Dems are running nine freaks around the country trying to talk the Bush-bashers into picking one....
