I'm afeered I'm a bumpkin' and I have absolutely no idear what an auto-buffet is. I think that the Inquisition has been much maligned and needs to be studied and information read from the Catholic point of view rather than the overwhelmingly protestant distortion of the Inquisition.

"auto da fe(act of faith) is the term the Catholic church used to refer to burning someone at the stake for a religious offense such as heresy.

Black Elk supports that- you support Black Elk and say you agree with his views.

Therefore, you think dissenters from Catholicism should be burned at the stake

If you don't even know a basic concept like "auto da fe", you obviously don't know anything about the Inquisition at all.

As to your request for specific examples of how the Catholic church suppressed free speech, free thought, and freedom of religion -how about Giordano Bruno, Galileo, William Tyndale, the witch burnings, the torture and execution of many thousands of lesser known dissenters, the masssacre of the French Protestants, the Counter Reformation Wars, the Inquisition and the whole history of medieval and early modern Europe, of which you apparently know very little.

Ahhhh-but YOUR knowledge of the Galileo affair is perfect, no?

So, Enlightened One (and I am not referring to burning-at-the-stake, another form of enlightenment) tell us all about how Rome suppressed Gal'o. Please.

I can quote as much about medieval history as anyone present, but would not be so unconscious as to insert the only thing one apparently knows irrelevantly into a discussion about a world body presumed to enforce a peace, in the 20th and 21st centuries.
I promise not to cite any similar atrocities committed throughput Europe during the same period. Or the brutalities committed by Islam. I have enough sense to stay on topic.

Thank you. To be fair though, the early Protestants weren't all that nice either and used their new-found power to get even with the Catholics. John Calvin was particularly nasty and was responsible for many floggings, imprisonments, tortures, banishments, and burnings at the stake.

The interesting thing is that no one is going to whine about me being a Protestant basher even though I've just slammed one of the most influential Protestants in history.

Chuckle, chortle...pardon me for not being up on my latin. I figured you'd parade out the 'usual suspects'.. "Galileo, Tyndale, witch burnings, etc. etc." Thought I'd get something new. This is all old stuff.

I think the fact of the matter is that what was once the greatness of Europe, society and the greatness of Christianity is because of the catholic church.

And, we're coming for you, BlackElk and I... thou heretic!!! LOL

WK: See post #519 for definitive proof of your own ignorance as to the auto-da-fe which you claim is a "basic concept." The cap'n knows his stuff far better than you. Lorraine Boettner was a lying idiot. You ought to apologize or go to your room.

Wait, you forgot to tell us the Tales of Maria Monk and Jack Chick's more contemporary anti-Catholic fantasies and lies. Do not hide your light under a bushel.
