But the collapse of the WTC towers exceeded their wildest dreams. They didn't know that would happen.
They might just plan smaller to begin with, and then with the US breathing down their necks they have little wiggle room.

At one time, my airline flew to Souix City, Iowa which had the code of SUX, and we also flew (still do) to Fresno which as the code of FAT. Not sure if we had any routings from FAT-SUX or SUXFAT.
We even did a charter once to Fukuoka Japan, guess what the code is for that city?

Interesting thread, boys and girls. I happened to subscribe to Airnav's Flightracker a couple of weeks ago, and so, can survey everything currently flying over the Western Hemisphere that is equipped with a transponder. At the moment, AFR068 is over northern Nevada, and is being shadowed by a two aircraft from Mountain Home AFB near Boise. It's travelling as you have reported at 37,000 feet at 512 knots. The two shadows are behind the craft and currently at 35,000 feet and 410 and 510 knots, respectively.

If they crashed a planeload of french any where near LA, the fallout would make it unlivable for a thousand years.

Here's a link that shows current air traffic around LAX...click on each plane for info on that flight...it appears in the box on the right...it may take a second or two to load.

the CAP flights refuel over the Pacific because that is the refueling area for SOCal....
I dont know what base Tanker 64 came from...but they met up with the F16s from Tucson over the ocean...then refueled them...the F16s are now in CenCal I believe...I havent heard anything for a while. I do not know if the tanker is still running circles over the Pacific, or landed at March or somewhere.
For the past several weeks, Montana ANG = Magic and Tucson ANG = Bluto have been flying around LA at various times. Generally we get planes from Lemoore NAS...but I don't think they are available right now. New Mexico ANG = TACO has been heard this fall...
Jan 1st will be some real listening, with the CAP, and the F22, B2 and F117 all flying around.

Its headed over Reno because the area directly between Reno and Las Vegas is a restricted area for passenger planes. Tonopah Test Range and assorted other operations there are off limits to all planes. This is a normal routing, trust me, most likely they went this way due to the weather over the LAS area.
To: rdwtic
Im not doubting what you are saying, but why would tactical military aircraft carry civilian transponders so easily mapped....
To: Central Scrutiniser
The codes are a hoot, sometimes.
The only time I flew into Paris, many years ago, Orly was the only international airport. There was another field, though, which began with a "B".
