Note the direct connection to Bashar Assad, president/dictator of Syria.
And the Russians sold weapons to the Iraqis via Syria as well.
The article gives a tremendous amount of detail. It's really worth reading.

"And the files reviewed by The Times about 800 pages of signed contracts, shipping manifests, export documents, bank deposits, minutes of meetings and more offer a rare glimpse into the murky world of international arms smuggling and the ties between countries such as Syria and North Korea, which the administration calls "rogue states," and the ousted Iraqi regime. The documents illustrate the clandestine networks and complex deceptions Iraq used to evade U.N. sanctions and scrutiny by U.S. intelligence. Those include extensive use of front companies, sham contracts, phony export licenses, kickbacks and money laundering schemes."

The LA Times gives an absolutely mindboggling amount of details and specifics.

No doubt we can trust the UN to make an example of Syria, for violating the "Stringent Embargo" on Iraq,
and in turn, impose similar sanctions on Syria.
Kofi Annan will set things right.
Yeah, right.

It's going to be very interesting to see just what, if anything, the UN does about this. Either they do something or they might as well lock up the doors at Turtle Bay.

Surely you aren't seriously expecting the UN to do anything, are you?

If the odd UN commercial I saw the other night is any indication, they are more likely to sanction the US. The commercial accused the US of being a major purchaser of slaves... 20,000 in the last year. I'm still wondering if it was flu induced dementia.

We are not allowed to post the whole article from the LA Times. They sued FR and part of the settlement agreement was that we are only allowed to post excerpts.
The same applies to the washington post and a few other papers.
To: BykrBayb
fyi - LA Times articles can not be posted in their entirety due to a legal settlement some time back, excerpts only are allowed.
