"I want the party to stick to the platform, smaller gov (forget it), less entitlement (forget it), less taxes (forget it)"
Uh, I'm with you on the first two, but you've lost me on that third one. Bush's record on taxes is impeccable.
Please don't say that his increased spending means taxes will HAVE to be raised in the future. I don't want to have to get into the Laffer Curve yet again. 10 times a week explaining what should be taught in 8th grade Social Studies and -should- be the Economic First Commandment on the tip of any conservative's lips is getting to be too much for me.

I pay OVER $100,000 a year in taxes. I am not bashing Mr. Bush on taxes. I was bashing the Republicans on taxes. I live in a Republican controlled country, in what was a Republican controlled state (thank you George Ryan), and a Republican controlled county, and a NEWLY formed Republican controlled village. I DO NOT blame the democrats for all of my taxation. Actually, I am pretty sick of my taxation. And at this point, if you are an officeholder you are part to blame. My main reason is my desire to keep what I EARN.
Qwinn, the reason that you thought you were going to get is still the MOST valid one, but I would never argue it with you. For, you have shown it not to be an issue of yours'

Your point is exactly on target. But it also shows the fundamental sameness between Democrats and Republicans.
Democrats want to expand the federal government and pay for it by raising taxes on "the rich."
Republicans want to expand the federal government and pay for it by cutting taxes and stimulating economic growth, resulting in higher government revenues. Since they want to expand the government immediately, even before the tax cuts have their big effect on the economy, they also like to borrow to finance the expansion of the fedgov.
Now, I want to see the federal government reduced in scope and total tax revenues reduced. Neither party wants to do that.
Truth be told, except for defense issues, I would probalby get less government growth from Democrats, because their punative taxation won't be as successful at generating revenue as the Republican tax cuts.
