A good conservative (and you'd better look up the definition--it does NOT include "libertarian"...) would suggest that "Fair Trade" is a much better policy.
That is, the USA should adjust its import-duties to reflect the cost-of-doing-business in the USA. Corporate taxes, regulations, and Fair Labor Standards should be taken into account, as well as realistically-valued currency.
"Free Trade" has the effect that Waterstraat posted above: a new slavery, now operating in Red China.
