The other sideshow in this amusing circus is that the party of sodomy and infanticide is very, very nervous about Dean's comment. Not because they fear his obvious pandering, cynicism, and transparency will cost him votes---but because the mention of the name "Jesus" in their presence causes the green pea soup mixture in their throats to flow in projectile fashion.
