Washington Post ^

Posted on 12/23/2003 8:14:51 PM PST by jern

sident Bush plans to kick off his reelection year by proposing a program that would make it easier for immigrants to work legally in the United States, in what would constitute the most significant changes to immigration law in 18 years, Republican officials said yesterday.

Lobbyists working with the White House said Bush is developing a plan that would allow immigrants to cross the border legally if jobs are waiting for them. The sources said the administration also wants to provide a way for some undocumented workers in the United States to move toward legal status.

"proposing a program that would make it easier for immigrants to work legally in the United States"

Smokescreen.

""If what the White House proposes is credible, there's likely to be a warm response," (LA RAZA statement)

"The proposal planned by the White House has much in common with plans that have been offered by some of the Democratic presidential candidates..."

"A leading Bush adviser said that, given the crucial swing vote Hispanics could provide next November, "the White House feels it's got to get its irons in the fire now."

Any questions, suckers???

And on top of it all it was the Homeland Security dept that trotted out the idea (with the full backing of the Prez) of amnesty for all illegal aliens. ......Are we in the freakin' Twilight Zone?

Making it EASIER? Easier than what?
That is NOT the kind of "reform" I was hoping for...

So if Bush grants amnesty to all 12 million illegals, how many extra votes do you think he'll get?

Say he nets 50,000 additional votes. Mexico has 104 million people, so if you divide that by 12 million and multiply by 50 thousand, you get 433 thousand extra votes waiting in Mexico.

Hmmm, 433 thousand votes if we legalize every single Mexican. Is it worth it?
