Do you really think it's feasible to round up and deport 12 million illegals?Don't need to. Announce that beginning in 60 days, illegals will be arrested, and sentenced to 6 months labor clearing brush and cutting firetrails etc, prior to their deportation. After a few thousand arrests, the rest will beat feet for the border. No need to round up 12 million, they will deport themselves.
Do you really think it's politically palatable to put the army on the Mexican border and have them machine gun down anyone trying to cross illegally?Asinine straw man arguement. Nobody needs to put the Army on the border or machine gun anyone. Just give the current BP real rules of engagement, not Keystone Kops "don't pursue" ROE which they presently endure, which are designed to ensure their failure.
Do you really think Mexicans will stop coming as long as American companies keep hiring them?
They will stop coming when /1/ the free welfare, health care, tuition etc are cut off. /2/ they know they will be arrested, sentenced to perform labor, and will only then be deported.
They will stop coming when we stop providing them incentives to come. This can be done by executive order in one day.
And of course, it wouldn't hurt to jail some CEOs of meat packing plants etc.
I like your ideas. But the reality is that McCain's plan will be law within a few years, and there is not a damned thing we can do about it.
Bush, Ridge, and Rove would never pull this shit if they were not CONVINCED it was do-able.
It's too late. Too many years of lawlessness have gone by. The argument will be that we have no choice. Amnesty is the only answer. And their compassionate conservative plan is better than blanket amnesty. Illegals are entrenched, and here to stay. We are screwed. Period.
Sometimes I wonder if Bush's religious beliefs play a factor here.
