Immigration Reform on Bush Agenda
Washington Post ^ | December 24, 2003 | Mike Allen

Posted on 12/23/2003 7:56:18 PM PST by sarcasm

< SNIP >

Lobbyists working with the White House said Bush is developing a plan that would allow immigrants to cross the border legally if jobs are waiting for them. The sources said the administration also wants to provide a way for some undocumented workers in the United States to move toward legal status.

Bush will try to make the plan more palatable to conservatives by including stricter entry controls, including increased use of technology at the border and steps toward better enforcement of current visa restrictions and reporting requirements, sources said.

< SNIP >

The White House plan is being designed by Bush's senior adviser, Karl Rove, in consultation with the domestic policy staff. Sources said the White House's biggest concern is that the new mechanism not penalize people who had followed the law and reward those who had not. McCain's plan, which was introduced in the House by Reps. Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), tries to mitigate that problem by creating a new type of visa for previously undocumented workers who would be allowed to live in the United States legally for three years. Then the workers could apply for the temporary worker visa, which would be the path to a green card, or legal permanent residency. That would amount to a three-year advantage for those who entered legally.

Huh? According to your logic anybody who attempts to better themselves or advance their career is just an evil "greedy" person?

No. According to my logic, anybody who is so greedy as your friend to take the selfish act of cutting in the immigration line is an evil "greedy" person.

Greed is what motivated him. The pursuit of the almighty dollar.

He is stealing from people who have waited to immigate for years that could be here now working.

He is no different than a bank robber.

Mojo, now you stepped in it. Enjoy the view from ground level.

I implied you had a bone with Republicans - and I was right.

Your original post.......

As long as companies bent on acquiring cheap labor fill the Republicrat coffers, and we have politicians all-too-willing to be bribed in this manner, nothing will change.

Then you yap yap and tell me.........

I said "Republicrats", not Republicans. That word-fusion implies both parties are similarly (and successfully) bribed. Damn, are you stupid.

But the definition of "republicrat" did not fit your rant, now did it..............

1) A nominal or moderate member of either the Republican or Democratic party who strays from party ideals. 2) A member of the single ruling party in America made up of both the Democratic and Republican parties.

Bribes? Coffers? That has nothing to do with it. Why did you say that?

Now, with your last post, your true intent becomes obvious...

Correct. The so-called Republicans who proposed this "immigration reform" have indeed strayed from party ideals. That is precisely what I implied. Do you have an argument with this, or is your nose too far up the President's ass to notice.

You blame the Republicans for this immigration mess, don't you?

And if the Repulicans don't do things exactly the way YOU think they should be done, then you crap your diapers.

I'll call GWB and let him know that he needs to consult with you before any more domestic policy making.

Now put the pacifer back in that pie hole and go to sleep.

Yup, and what happens when Dan Rather leads off every single newscast, night after night after night, with crying Mexican women and children being hauled out of the country away from the lives they've built in America.

Believe it or not this is happening now, everyday, just not in very high numbers.

The problem has more to do with the fact the border is wide open and even when they are deported they come right back in.

My friend, ya gotta take me off this ping list.

Done, my friend.

I agree with most everything the participants here agree with, I have relatives in Bisbee, AZ, San Diego, Poway and New Mexico, and sympathize with the problema, but with all the IDIOTIC statements of "I Ain't gonna vote for Bush, or Republicans anymore" because of this 'perception' of amnesty, I gotta wonder:

Who the f-ck you gonna vote for?

Who the f-ck you gonna back?

You really want to see a RAT vctory anywhere cause you abstain from voting?

You gonna let the blood and sacrifice going on in Iraq, Afghanistan and all parts in between cloud your judgement on the ONE TRUE FREEDOM we have, VOTING, just because you have a friggin' CAUSE.

Illegal Aliens

Amnesty

ILLLEGAL ALIENS

AMNESTY

I've tried to be patient when I've been on these threads, but I gotta tell ya, important it is, but it is about a fly on an elephants ass right now, compared to other matters.

Then it seems to me you need to ask your President why he is so intent on pissing off so many, at squandering so many votes, at such cost, for something that is so wrong as Amnesty for Illegals.

This President works at our pleasure. It's up to him to please us, and up to us to express our displeasure.

I've put up with this President's nonsense on CFR, on spending, on the expansion of entitlements, on prescription drugs, and other domestic debacles, as well as on the "religion of peace," on the road map, on Saudi Arabia, and lately on Taiwan.

How much more should I give him a pass because he's doing a good job overall on the war on terror? Is there no line he can cross where you won't have had enough?

I agree with your implication that there is substantial grassroots opposition to illegal immigration. It is, however, highly uncertain whether such opposition would be sustained throughout the duration a crackdown campaign lasting months or even years.

When one considers the political risk associated with a crackdown on illegals, and couples that with the fact that many elected officials who would have to support such a measure don't personally have to deal with the negative effects of illegal immigration, a crackdown is a non-starter.

Your friend just said "F*** you all!" to every single person that has been waiting patiently here for years to immigrate here as soon as he overstayed his Visa.

Right. According to your logic everybody who ever exceeded the speed limit said "F*** you all!" to every other car on the road..."I hope you all F****ing die!".

Are you trying to make me laugh on purpose or what?

Oh. And I let you dodge the bullet. Sorry, that isn't like me. The question was: "and what if, just for the sake of argument, there is NO SUCH ANIMAL?"

Meaning, what do you propose if there is no solution which is practical AND politically acceptable? What is more desirable: A solution that is practical, or a non-solution that is politically palatable?

"Exactly my point. There are many people who came here with good intentions, have worked hard and broken no laws other than overstaying their Visas."

People who break the law as soon as they come here will break the law whenever it is in their interest.

To assert that criminality is a perfectly acceptable behavior is ridiculous.

I am going to bed now Jorge but I will leave you with one thought.

I wonder how your friend would feel if he was still waiting to immigrate from his country of origin and watched as his fellow countrymen took the easy way and just overstayed their Visas?

For some reason I don't think he would be cheering them on as you seem to be.

I agree, we're past the tipping point.

My next novel takes place in the state of Nuevo Mexico, 2010. Stay tuned.

You blame the Republicans for this immigration mess, don't you?

Yes, I blame Republicans AND Democrats for this mess. Politicians on both sides of the aisle get their coffers filled, with the return payment being an open borders policy.

No.
Just a student of classical history who is not blind to modern reality.
You, on the other hand, are the one taking an obnoxiously supercillious pose.
That makes you... what? A holier-than-thou ersatz-conservative?

I/m a little worked up... I was upset when the left made these arguments. Now all of the GOP- bots have done a 180 and support this lunacy. It is disheartening...
