Fox says at first look they do not see any major damage at Hearst Castle.
To: Yossarian; Ernest_at_the_Beach
I told Ernest just last week there was a lot of activity in So Cal EQ zones and to look out for a quake. On the other hand here on the North Coast where we have 5 to 10 small quakes a week has been very quite for three weeks. I even called Prof Lori Dengler at HSU on Wednesday of last week to voice my concern. We have been in a lull here since 1992 according to here and she is concerned also.
In 1700 we had a 9.? quake form here to BC that sent a tidal wave to Japan...

There hasn't been REALLY intensive study of the area, I'm sure, for obvious reasons most of it has been around SF and LA (paleoseismic trenching, etc.)
And that's just the obvious surface-breaking strike-slip faults.....doesn't include all the completely hidden and unknown thrust faults (like Northridge.)

KSBY/San Luis Obispo: Some reports of damage in Cambria area.

It's cold there. I'll deal. You can get shelter from the cold. There is no shelter when the earth beneath you goes unstable.

Is it normal to have 15 aftershocks?

you know, the out of states should tone down the comedy....there are reports of building collapses etc....likely people have died

Please people, calm down! Too late, I just looted a TV. It's a California thang. ;-)
We don't have more than tremors in Indiana, so we have to wait until a sports team wins a national title before we can loot. ;-P

KNBC: There was a 5.4 and a 5.6 between 11:30 & 11:40, both southeast of the initial quake. There have been 14 measurable quakes/aftershocks.

Nobody in Hayward felt it (at the airport). You're right nearby in CV, right?
I think it was felt along the Calaveras and San Andreas Faults, but not the Hayward Fault.

The aftershocks are coming at about 1 per minute. They're not big, though, and shouldn't be causing much additional damage, unless some structures have been severely weakend already.
To: cajungirl
I didn't feel it either in Louisiana. Didn't feel it here in Seattl
