Congratulations! It was five years ago today the House of Representatives impeached President William Jefferson Clinton for perjury and obstruction of justice.
Those brave representatives survived an all-out war of political brinksmanship which included public threats of retaliation and private threats to bring down the government if Clinton was impeached.
James Carville threatened Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr with "kneecapping;" Alec Baldwin called for the murder of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde; George Stephanopoulos passed along the threat to employ the "Ellen Romesch defense"--a public blackmailing of Congress; Hillary Clinton said on the Today Show that those plotting against her husband "would have alot to answer for" when this was done; Paula Jones was called "trailer trash" and worse for simply seeking justice and an apology; Linda Tripp had her reputation destroyed by a conspiracy of Clinton administration officials and media operatives. Even Monica Lewinsky feared for her life and kept the infamous blue dress stained with presidue for insurance.
Thank God that people like Linda Tripp stood tall and refused to back down in their determination to see that a president of the United States could not commit felonies in office with impunity.
And thank God for people like Jim Robinson, Bob Barr, Gary Aldrich, Alan Keyes, Larry Klayman, Lucianne Goldberg, Billy Dale and all the rest who spoke at, organized and attended Free Republic's nationally televised rally supporting Clinton's impeachment on October 31, 1998.
You done good! Impeachment is forever. You can be proud that in America's hour of need, you answered the call to preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

I was surrounded last night by a bunch of libs who say that leftists are known for their integrity! Yeah, hitting on everything with female genitalia is so noble!Forget the sex. Their entire outlook on life depends on a tissue of lies.
Pathetic.

Excuse me.......but I am a 66 yr. old grandMOTHER. My apologies!
I was so proud of our republicans that day. They knew the political consequences, given the media, but did the right thing. It was a day of which to be proud, not sorrowful.
Yes, I was glad on that day myself. I was disappointed on the day Slick Willie was elected, and on the day he was re-elected; during the Monica scandal, I felt a sense of vindication, as I had always suspected that Bubba had serious character flaws. And I was glad to see him being brought to justice ... my next disappointment was when the Senate vote failed.
It is indeed a shame to have a president who has to be impeached, so I understand Nina's emotions, though I agree with you that Impeachment Day was more a day for pride in the way the decent people of America acted to counter that shame.

What do you suggest Trent Lott do to convince Arlen Specter to vote YES? Take a map of the world, show him where Scotland is, and then show him where D.C. is? ;-)

If Clinton were removed, Al Gore would likely be in the fifth year of a ten-year presidency.

I was driving down to my brother's in Richmond for an early Christmas dinner, listening to C-SPAN, and almost had to pull over because I was crying so hard. Not because I thought he didn't deserve it, but because I was so heartbroken that the country had come to that. I felt similarly - in 1992. I felt angry and sickened that the country had put that low-class s.o.b. in the White House. I knew he had morals lower than those of an alley cat, so nothing he did later was a suprise.

IIRC you posted a copy of her singing that. I've got it saved around here somewhere. Brought tears to my eyes.

Great !! Now it's time to go after the infamous 3 who publicly stated international law should take precedence over the Constitution they swore to uphold: Ginsburg, Kennedy, and O'Connor.

I do not understand your reply. Could it be that you do not know that Loral Space was allowed to sell technology to the Chinese to enable them to achieve orbital delivery capabilties for their communication satellites? This is the same technology used to delivery ICBM's to orbit. It's all a part of history now. Two huge DNC donors, the PLA (Communist Chinese military) and Bernard Schwartz, CEO of Loral Space. We were had, were sold out. Clinton surpassed the treachery of all that came before him. We don't make this up!

The Ford Building Innocents!
Republican Senators saw all the evil of Clinton in that building, and they sat back, lubed up, and grabbed their ankles!
What a country!

Nina0113 clearly means that she was sad that it was necessary to impeach a president.
Impeachment was good and necessary, but shaming Clinton into resigning would have helped the country. Unfortunately, Clinton has no shame and he (like the Dems who supported him) would never put the country above personal political considerations.
