Congratulations! It was five years ago today the House of Representatives impeached President William Jefferson Clinton for perjury and obstruction of justice.
Those brave representatives survived an all-out war of political brinksmanship which included public threats of retaliation and private threats to bring down the government if Clinton was impeached.
James Carville threatened Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr with "kneecapping;" Alec Baldwin called for the murder of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde; George Stephanopoulos passed along the threat to employ the "Ellen Romesch defense"--a public blackmailing of Congress; Hillary Clinton said on the Today Show that those plotting against her husband "would have alot to answer for" when this was done; Paula Jones was called "trailer trash" and worse for simply seeking justice and an apology; Linda Tripp had her reputation destroyed by a conspiracy of Clinton administration officials and media operatives. Even Monica Lewinsky feared for her life and kept the infamous blue dress stained with presidue for insurance.
Thank God that people like Linda Tripp stood tall and refused to back down in their determination to see that a president of the United States could not commit felonies in office with impunity.
And thank God for people like Jim Robinson, Bob Barr, Gary Aldrich, Alan Keyes, Larry Klayman, Lucianne Goldberg, Billy Dale and all the rest who spoke at, organized and attended Free Republic's nationally televised rally supporting Clinton's impeachment on October 31, 1998.
You done good! Impeachment is forever. You can be proud that in America's hour of need, you answered the call to preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

Kristinn, we all owe you and a few other faithful Freepers more than we can say for the wonderful job you did keeping the clinton scandals alive in your protest vigils in front of the White House during those years. And for your wonderful reports to the forum.
Henry Hyde and the House managers were true patriots. Their courageous example will live in our hearts forever. In contrast, the Senate will always be tarnished by their shameful conduct, by their shameful violation of their oaths of office, and by their blasphemous violation of the solemn oaths they swore at start of the impeachment trial.
So help them God.

Arlen Specter quoting Scottish Law and refusing to add his YES vote so that at least the recorded vote would show a majority.
His wife was rewarded with a government job and ole Arlen needs to be put out to pasture.......VOTE TOOMEY

The impeachment IS something he can never shake,
our nation on the other hand has already moved on
to a brighter future.
Some day his mewling demagoguery will be silenced,
that day cannot come soon enough to suit me.

I'll not forget it. I'm a Christian and I can try to forgive, but to quote The Who, "I won't get fooled again."
A few times over the next couple of years I had the opportunity to hear Trent Lott speak. I would always get up and leave before he started. Probably no one noticed. Maybe that's wrong but it's how strongly I felt in the aftermath.

Wrong, What Clinton is most remembered for in the year 2200: Clinton - Allowed the communist Chinese to acquire orbital delivery capablities.
Let's pray you are wrong.....
I fear you are not.

You have to really screw up like Hoover (who started down the high-tax big spending path Roosevelt followed) in order to be remembered for fiscal problems.LOL! Carter should thank Reagan that he is not remembered as another Hoover...

And if Dumbass Gore had gotten behind an effort to have Bubba resign, HE would be working in the Oval Office right now ... Very true. The fickle finger of fate stuck him where it hurt.

What do you suggest Trent Lott do to convince Arlen Specter to vote YES?

Tell me what the population was in America when Herbert Hoover was president.
How many people have jobs in America today?

You may have missed my point...
Reagan's good fiscal policies overcame Carter's bad one's and kept Carter from being remembered for srarting the "Depression" he was leading us toward...

I just wanted to comment on the rant from the left about how President Bush lost more jobs than Herbert Hoover.

Accusing the extortionist, treasonous president of something half to three quarters of the congress was guilty of was at the best, stupid. Half to three quarters of the Congress was guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice? (I think about half of them are guilty of treason, but not perjury or o/j...)
